STING, said to be the greatest one night dancehall and reggae show on Earth is held on December 26 yearly. This stage show, which features the best performers (from those two genres) made its name as a neutral ground where feuding artistes would come to “settle the score” with a lyrical clash. The event, which is the brain child of former police man (self-proclaimed bad man police), Isaiah Laing began in 1984. By 1987 the show was a hit, with more than 22,000 patrons in attendance.
On December 26, 2013 Sting will celebrate its 30th anniversary.
For it’s 30th staging the event is going all out, thanks to sponsorship from the Jamaica Tourist Board (for the first time ever) and a partnership with DownSound Records which has enabled pay-per-view coverage across the United States. The stage show was launched last Monday (November 19, 2013). Here are some highlights:
